Savoury, Sweet & Surprising Treats at The Calgary Stampede

There are lots of amazing events and attractions that bring people to the Stampede, but one that seems to get more and more creative every year is the food vendors.

Many of the items on the menu this year sound downright delicious, while others will probably only appeal to the truly adventurous. This is exactly what it sounds like. A signature four cheese blend on thick Texas toast with a serving of crunchy crickets on top. It might sound crazy, but crickets are actually becoming a popular food item with Cricket Protein Bars and Cricket Flour both trending in health food circles. Apparently crickets are a complete protein source that also has omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, calcium and vitamin B12. So if you’re up for a protein-packed flavour adventure, you should consider giving Cricket Grilled Cheese a try!

These warm doughnuts are covered in a vanilla glaze and powdered sugar before being topped with pop rocks, to create a unique dessert that snaps and crackles with sweetness.

If you’re a fan of seafood, or just love when something deep fried is put on a stick, than this one is for you! The giant squid on a stick is literally that. A delicately marinated squid that is breaded in a mixture of flour and spices and deep fried to crunchy perfection

A real pleaser for true meat lovers, these Bacon Onion Bombs feature two savoury meatballs wrapped inside a sliced onion. Then the onion is wrapped in bacon, and the whole thing is deep fried to perfection. If you believe that bacon makes everything better, than you’re going to find it tough to top this mouth-watering treat.

This is probably the most exciting one on the menu. Two delicious slabs of chocolate chip cookie dough with ice cream sandwiched in the middle. It’s so simple that it’s actually kind of genius.
